Porcelain Veneers

Porcelain Veneers

Veneers are perhaps the simplest oral restorations that are primarily used for cosmetic dental purposes. Patients with severely worn out, cracked, chipped, excessively spaced, or discolored teeth can benefit from veneers. Porcelain veneers are wafer-thin; they can easily be bonded to the front surface of the teeth to get rid of the imperfections.

What are the advantages of porcelain veneers?

  • Porcelain veneers are extremely thin restorations. Hence, we remove a little enamel during the preparation phase to make space for it.
  • Porcelain veneers are customized at a dental laboratory according to the color and contour of your teeth. This way, teeth that are discolored or misshapen can be restored to their ideal aesthetics. Even when you talk or smile, veneers can't be distinguished from the adjoining teeth as they perfectly mimic the appearance of the natural teeth.
  • Although these veneers are quite thin, they offer excellent durability. This makes them quite long-lasting as well.
  • They are resistant to staining and decay as they are unaffected by plaque and tartar deposits.

How are these veneers bonded?

Dr. Felahy offers the best quality dental veneers that are custom-made according to each patient's requirement.

During the initial visit, we will determine your candidacy by running a few tests and taking oral x-rays. A thin layer of enamel will be removed by gently buffing the teeth to accommodate the veneer. Further, a hand-held scanning tool is used to scan the teeth and create a 3D digital mold of the teeth. It will be shared with a dental laboratory for fabricating the restoration. While the restoration is being made, we will place a temporary veneer to protect the prepared tooth surface.

During the next consultation, we will remove the temporary restoration and clean the tooth. It will be roughened using a suitable etching solution, which allows the veneer to adhere firmly to the tooth and prevent slipping off. Dental adhesives are used to bond the veneer, which will be hardened using a high-intensity curing light. A bite test is carried out to ensure the veneer is fitting well, and the veneer will be polished to enhance its luster.
