What can you eat after a dental implant surgery?

The diet you take after a dental implant surgery plays a crucial role in determining the pace at which your wound would recover. Like any other surgery, the body requires nutritious and well-cooked food to restore the strength in the area operated.

Here, we have come up with a list of food items you can consume just after your dental implant surgery and a list of food that you shouldn't eat for a couple of days until your wound heals completely.

Things to eat after dental implant surgery

As the wound is fresh, you need to be extra cautious just after the surgery. The anesthesia would wear off after a few hours, and you might experience pain in the operated region. Therefore, during this time, you would be allowed to take in just liquids and too delicate food items such as:

  • A smoothie- Make sure to skip nuts and crunchy items in your smoothie. Try to blend it as much as possible.
  • Ice cream- Dentists recommend consuming cold items just after the surgery as it numbs and ensures that the wound does not bleed.
  • Mashed potatoes- This is something you can devour all day. It's mushy and smooth, perfect for a post-surgery meal.
  • Creamy soup- Add whichever vegetable and fruit you like and prepare a soup. Make sure it is not too hot when you consume it, as it might lead to bleeding.
  • Pudding- You can have a pudding if you feel like it.
  • Yogurt- You can add a bit of honey or applesauce to make it tastier. Otherwise, you can also eat flavored yogurt.

Foods to avoid after your dental implant surgery

It is important to know what to skip entirely for a few days. Avoid harsh, crunchy, sticky, and spicy food for a couple of days. Ensure you consume food at room temperature; it might be a tough job, but to allow the wound to heal correctly, you have to take precautions.
