5 Tips for a Healthier Smile

Did you know that around 43 muscles have to work just to create a smile on your face? Smiling your identity, your unique characteristic that people notice at first sight. And oral health — that is, healthy teeth, gums, bones, salivary glands, and soft tissues — are also major key factors for a healthier smile.

How do you care for your smile? Let us at our Rocklin Dental help you with some tips for a healthier smile:

  • Brushing and Flossing

Brushing and flossing are important in keeping teeth clean. But how do you brush your teeth in the right way? When brushing, keep the bristles at a forty-five-degree angle near the gum line. Brush your tongue and the roof of your mouth gently. This will help to avoid bad breath.

Brushing can also help clean the surface of the teeth,  but it's not that effective in destroying the hidden bacteria in between the teeth. For that, you have to floss. Dentists recommend using 18 inches of floss and working it between the teeth and keeping the floss angled into a C shape around the tooth.

  • Healthy Diet Plan

Include healthy foods in your diet. You must include fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, and cheese. These foods are good for strengthening the teeth and fighting against bacteria and plaque.

Refined foods with high sugar content can damage your teeth, so avoid such sugary food items. You should also avoid alcoholic beverages. Try to eat only tooth-friendly food items daily.

  • Use of Mouthwash

By using mouthwash, you will add another layer of protection to your teeth’s enamel. Use mouthwash before going to bed. This helps to remove the food debris from teeth, prevent tooth decay, and provide a refreshing, super clean feel that makes you smile confidently.

  • Visits to Your Dentist Every Six Months

Routine dental checks are essential for oral health. You can get teeth cleanings to prevent oral diseases in the future and visual exams to detect problems early before they become severe.

  • Always Staying Hydrated

Keeping your body hydrated can help to produce enough saliva to keep your mouth clean. The saliva washes out the oral bacterias and food particles from the mouth, helping to get rid of bad breath. Drink eight glasses or more of water a day.

These tips could help you in keeping your smile healthy and beautiful. Want to know more about dental health and advanced treatments? Call us on (916) 435-5111 or book online to schedule an appointment with our expert dentist in Rocklin, CA.
